FAQ

How should I dress for the fishing trips?

Remember, it is always cooler on the water than onshore, so always be prepared for at least a slight breeze. Please don’t wear your “Sunday’s Best” and rubber soled shoes are recommended.

 What tackle should I bring?

The Taryn Ann will supply basic tackle (i.e. sinker and hook for fluke fishing). If there is a special lure or line that you wish to use, our crew will be happy to rig a boat rod with your lure of choice or help you rig your own rod.

What is the minimum age for a passenger?

The Taryn Ann will gladly accommodate children of any age (we have 2 of our own!), but we recommend children 3 years of age or older since most of our trips are at least 4 hours long.

 Will I get “sea sick”?

The Taryn Ann will fish in the water of your group’s preference. The waters of the Great South Bay are substantially calmer than those of the Atlantic Ocean. If your group is concerned with motion sickness, we recommend staying the Bay.

What is the minimum size group needed to charter a boat?

Our prices are based on a boat minimum. If you group is willing to pay more per head, then group size is not important. Typically the smaller groups are between 25 and 35 passengers.

Does the Taryn Ann sail every day?

There are two different types of boats at Captree: open boats and charter boats.  Open boats have a set sailing schedule each day and typically do not accommodate group more than 20 passengers. Charter boats sail based on their group’s reservations and sail only with larger size groups. The Taryn Ann is a charter boat.

What are the different types of fish that you catch?

The DEC sets specific guidelines as to what fish we can catch and when. Typically, the Taryn Ann fishes for flounder in the spring, summer flounder (fluke), bluefish and weakfish in the summer, and blackfish or striped bass in the fall.

What types of moonlight sails do you host on the boat?

Over the years, we’ve had every type of trip possible! We often host Sweet 16s, birthday parties, Baptisms, and bachelor/bachelorette parties.
